For this project, the customer sent us their old windscreen and canvas components. We reproduced the agreed design at a 1:1 scale, making completely new pieces with blue Sunbrella fabric, clear flexible window panels and heat-resistant sewing thread.
The workshop photographs show the original and replacement pieces side by side, before installation on the boat.
1. Requirements and Quotation for Custom Marine Canvas
We begin with photographs of the existing windscreen, sprayhood canvas and installation positions. With the customer, we confirm the pieces requiring replacement, fabric and color preferences, window layout and any requested changes.
We also ask whether the old assembly still fits correctly. Stretching, shrinkage or misaligned connections need to be identified before reproducing the pattern.
The quotation covers the agreed materials and construction requirements. Production time, international shipping costs and the delivery destination are confirmed before work begins.
2. Marine Canvas Replacement from Existing Samples
The customer then sends us the original pieces. These serve as physical references for dimensions, curved edges, window divisions, seams and connecting sections.
Photographs taken while the old canvas is still fitted to the boat help us understand how the parts connect.
We reproduce the confirmed design at full size. Where wear or distortion makes a detail unclear, we check it with the customer before proceeding.
3. New Sunbrella Canvas and Clear Window Panels
This is a completely new replacement, rather than a repair of the old canvas.
Some samples need to be dismantled to reproduce individual panel shapes and construction details accurately. If the customer needs the originals returned intact, this must be discussed before the samples are sent.
For this order, the fabric sections were made with blue Sunbrella canvas and heat-resistant sewing thread. The clear flexible window panels followed the agreed layout.
Zipper positions, edge finishing and connecting sections are checked alongside the overall dimensions, particularly where the new pieces connect to existing canvas or fittings.
4. Approximately 10 Days for Production
Production for this sailboat windscreen replacement takes approximately 10 days after we receive the samples and confirm the final specifications.
This includes pattern preparation, cutting, sewing and assembly. Sample shipping and international delivery of the finished products are not included in this period.
Schedules for other custom marine canvas orders depend on the number of pieces, construction complexity and material availability.
5. Finished Product Review Before Shipping
Overall photographs and close-up images allow the customer to review the windows, zippers, seams and connecting details before dispatch.
The images in this article are flat-laid workshop photographs, not installed sprayhood or windscreen photographs. Final fit must be checked on the customer's boat, especially if the old samples have changed shape or the fittings have been modified.
6. Snap Fasteners for Customer Installation
Snap fasteners are not pre-installed on the new canvas. Matching snaps and a basic installation tool are supplied with the finished products.
Without access to the boat, we cannot accurately determine every snap position from the old samples alone. The customer therefore needs to position the new canvas on the boat and mark each location against the existing fasteners.
Check the overall alignment and zipper connections first, then mark and install the snaps.
7. International Express Delivery
After production and confirmation of the shipping details, we arrange international express delivery to the customer's address.
Packaging needs to protect the clear window surfaces and avoid sharp creases. Transit time depends on the destination, courier and customs clearance, and is separate from production time.
The return of original samples, including any dismantled pieces, is agreed before dispatch.
